wood mill and the Itchen river
On our first day in England, my father in law drove me around the area where they live in Southampton. I really enjoyed the drive.
One of the things that struck me is how narrow the streets are compared to our streets. Probably what makes the streets seem even narrower is the small front gardens. Here in Australia we have fairly spacious streets and front gardens.
Also, the trees were just sticks. They looked dead. It’s not something I see in the tropics. the trees here don’t loose their leaves and the grass isn’t always green because it’s so dry.
One of the places he took me was along the Itchen River. There is a lovely walk and park there. The weather wasn’t too bad. Spring was trying to poke through. Still very cold for us coming from the tail end of summer of a hot country. I found wearing all the clothes I was wearing to be bulky and restictive.
And the local wildlife
Best of all, the crocuses were flowering. I love bulbs and I wish I could grow them in my garden in Australia.
